Classes & Workshops

Workshops
TreeFolks offers 2-hour workshops that focus on a variety of topics such as tree care and maintenance, fruit tree pruning, and tree identification.  Recent workshops include tree identification walks downtown and a fruit tree pruning class at the Urban Roots Farm where participants learned the basics of fruit tree care, had a hands-on lesson pruning mature fruit trees and made fig tree cuttings to plant at home.

Citizen Forester
This is an 8 hour training course designed to cover the basics of urban tree care and installation.  Topics include: trees in landscape design, tree identification, soil health, pruning and maintenance, planting, and tree biology. The program includes both classroom and hands-on training.  TreeFolks provides educational materials and the topics are taught by local arborists, foresters, and landscape designers.  Participants also learn the skills needed to lead a volunteer crew at a public tree planting or maintenance event.

Barkley
TreeFolks’ mascot is a 9-foot-tall, walking, talking, teaching tree who makes appearances at festivals throughout Austin teaching the many benefits of trees.  Kids of all ages enjoy seeing this towering emissary of the urban forest.
