TreeFolks partners with municipalities, non-governmental organizations and other groups to plan events that give citizens hands-on opportunities to improve their communities through tree planting. During the 2010-2011 tree planting season (October 2010 thru March 2011), TreeFolks partnered with the City of Austin, UTVSLC Project 2011, Austin Youth River Watch and Austin Parks Foundation to plant 2,391 trees at 9 sites all over Austin: Blunn Creek Preserve, Decker Lake, Dobie Middle School, Gus Garcia Recreation Center, Hornsby Bend Center for Environmental Research, Longhorn Shores, Mayfield Preserve, Red Bud Isle Preserve and Zilker Park Preserve.
This season TreeFolks is focusing its efforts on planting young, native trees that don’t require supplemental irrigation and often grow faster and stronger because they are free from many of the problems of transplanting larger trees. Planting saplings is fun and much, much easier than planting bigger trees! TreeFolks is currently recruiting volunteers for several events this season in partnership with the City of Austin, Austin Parks Foundation, and Travis County. You can register to volunteer by clicking on the events below or through the event listings on our calendar. If you’d like receive email notification of volunteer opportunities, please sign up here.
